World Environment Day: Discovery Education Provides Resources To Primary Schools

On the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, Discovery Education – the worldwide edtech leader whose state-of-the-art digital platform supports learning wherever it takes place – is providing primary schools with dynamic digital resources to help teachers and children mark this global event.

Held annually on 5 June, World Environment Day brings together millions of people from across the globe, engaging them in an effort to protect and restore the earth. The theme of this year’s event is #BeatPlasticPollution and the Discovery Education resources will engage young students with this important issue, while helping them to explore the changes they can make to protect our planet.

Available via the award-winning digital learning service Discovery Education Espresso, the evergreen content now available has been specially curated to help schools learn about a host of important issues – from plastic pollution to water conservation to climate change – today and throughout the school year. From learning about the science, geography and politics of these issues, to getting hands on with eco-friendly quizzes and activities, the curriculum-matched content will cover a wide range of environmental themes and issues.

Suitable for students from EYFS to KS2, the resources include:

  • A Plastic Problem: Real-world videos about plastic pollution and positive action to stop it
  • Saving Water: Special videos and activities, exploring the important role water plays in our lives
  • Exploring Climate Change: An engaging activity to help students learn about greenhouse gasses
  • STEM Career Fact Files: Inspiring resources to help students explore future jobs that will lead the fight against climate change

Howard Lewis, Discovery Education’s UK and International Managing Director said:

“Discovery Education is proud to support World Environment Day by providing teachers with dynamic content to bring a host of environmental issues to life. It’s never been more important to educate children about conservation and our digital resources will help educators to do so in an engaging and age-appropriate way.”

The World Environment Day resources are available to Discovery Education subscriber schools via Discovery Education Espresso, the curriculum-centred daily learning platform for primary schools.
