New Teaching Resources for Mental Health Awareness Week from Discovery Education

Discovery Education is proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 by providing UK primary schools with new digital resources supporting pupils’ mental health and wellbeing.

Available via Discovery Education’s award-winning digital learning services Espresso and Health and Relationships, the new content gives primary schools high-quality digital resources to engage young people during Mental Health Awareness Week and beyond.

Centred on the theme of ‘Movement’, this year’s event will raise awareness that regular physical activity can boost mental health. The Discovery Education resources will help teachers to bring this idea to life while supporting pupil wellbeing more generally.

The new content is closely mapped to the National Curriculum, helping teachers to meet curriculum aims in subjects such as RSHE in every Key Stage.

The resources include:

  • Mental Health Awareness Week Lessons – available in Espresso Calendar Picks, these lessons help teachers and pupils observe the event while exploring why movement is good for mental health.
  • Shake it Out – these fun dance lessons in Espresso are designed to boost focus, use up energy and build pupils’ memory skills.
  • Brain Breaks – this collection of Espresso videos shows simple classroom exercises that can support pupil wellbeing.
  • Everyday Speech – these ready-to-use Espresso resources explore personal, social and emotional topics.
  • Health and Relationships – a complete suite of resources to help teachers deliver the primary RSHE curriculum. Health and Relationships explores child mental health through several different topics, including Coping with Change, Happy Friendships and Healthy Bodies, and Healthy Minds.
  • Sandbox AR – Discovery Education’s Bett Award-winning Augmented Reality app features a new immersive experience in which pupils can create a virtual world in which to explore and meditate.
