Sign-ups open for national anti-racism education conference
Early years and education professionals in Wales are being invited to a free national conference in Llandudno which will explore diversity and anti-racism in education practice.
The Diversity and Anti-Racist Professional Learning (DARPL) National Leadership Conference 2024, taking place at Venue Cymru on 20th June 2024, 9:00-17:00, is open to anyone working within childcare, playwork, post-16 further education or work-based learning, youth work or within a school setting.
Workshops and working groups will be facilitated by equality experts with lived or professional experience aimed to develop and explore anti-racism practices in education professionals and the settings they work in.
Guest speakers will include academic and writer Professor Charlotte Williams OBE, Rocio Cifuentes, the Children’s Commissioner for Wales and DARPL founder and director Chantelle Haughton.
DARPL is a national professional learning model which comprises anti-racist professional learning provision and resources for education professionals, and was developed at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Chantelle Haughton, a Principal Lecturer in Early Childhood Education at Cardiff Met, said: “This will be the second year of our pioneering DARPL National Leadership Conference providing a supportive and challenging opportunity for professionals to engage in meaningful discussions about diversity and anti-racist learning and practice, with practical support offered throughout the day. This is a superb opportunity, free to attend with space for discussions. We hope education, childcare, playwork and youth work professionals across Wales will take up the space to challenge and develop their leadership for the benefit of our future generations.”
