Strike action postponed at local schools

Parents and pupils at schools across Bridgend County Borough are being advised that planned industrial action which was set to take place on 15 and 16 March has now been postponed.

Following a new pay offer from Welsh Government, the National Education Union and the National Association of Head Teachers have agreed to suspend the strike in order to re-ballot members on whether to accept the new deal.

Cllr Jon-Paul Blundell, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “The unions have announced that following constructive talks with Welsh Government, a fresh pay offer has been put forward, and union members are currently considering the new deal.

“While this is under discussion, the planned industrial action for 15 and 16 March has been postponed.

“While I hope that the industrial dispute can come to a mutually beneficial conclusion, in the event that union members vote not to accept the deal and further industrial action goes ahead, the council and local schools are ready to work in close partnership once more to keep parents and pupils fully informed, and to ensure that local communities are aware of what support is available.

“As always, we will prioritise the health, safety and wellbeing of pupils, and I am looking forward to hearing what the outcome is.”
